A power-hitting corner infielder, Matt Baca will compete for playing time at first base this season for the Tide.

A 2008 graduate of Stony Point High School in Round Rock, Texas ... Baca was a two-sport star in football and baseball ... his high school coach was Tom Collins ... as a prep senior, he hit .387 (36 for 93) with three home runs and 19 RBI in 30 games ... earned All-District Region 14-5A honors at first base and was named to the academic all-district team ... also an All-District 14-5A at right tackle and team captain for the football squad ... one of two Stony Point graduates on Alabama team, joining former alum Scott Hays ... as a junior, he led Stony Brook with 28 hits ... participated in the 2007 Texas Scouts Game at Minute Maid Park in Houston ... went 3-for-4 in the game, including a towering home run to left-center field . .. participated in the 2007 Area Code Tryouts ... played in the 2006 Area Code Games at Baylor University and went 2-for-3 with one home run ... played summer ball for the Austin Slam (2007), where he hit .575 (75 for 157) with six home runs and 60 RBI ... also tallied a 25-game hitting streak.
