Athlete Agent Information
The University of Alabama Department of Intercollegiate Athletics seeks to provide its student-athletes every opportunity to succeed in professional sports. As a part of this commitment to the success of our student-athletes, the institution has elected to take a pro-active stance against agent interference, NCAA rules violations and legal issues involving agents and their intermediaries. As a result, we would like to take this opportunity to remind agents seeking future representation of our student-athletes of the following NFLPA regulations, state laws and institutional procedures regarding agent contact with current student-athletes:
The NFLPA has adopted a "Junior Rule," or Section 3(B) 30(a-c) of the NFLPA Regulations Governing Contract Advisors. This rule prohibits certified agents from contacting, directly or indirectly, non-draft-eligible college players or members of their family. Any violation of this rule or any other NFLPA regulation discovered by the University of Alabama will be reported to the NFLPA.
Further, Code of Alabama § 8-26A-4 states that an individual may not act as an athlete agent in this state without holding a certificate of registration issued by the Secretary of State. Code of Alabama § 8-26A-14 further defines prohibited athlete agent conduct. Such action jeopardizes the eligibility of our student-athletes, thus we take all such allegations seriously. Any violation of this statute can result in criminal prosecution, including possible felony charges. Violations will be reported to the Alabama Attorney General's Office for prosecution.
The University of Alabama also has policies and procedures to assist our student-athletes in the agent selection process. The University requires any athlete agent who wishes to represent our student-athletes to complete a Player-Agent Registration Form and submit said form to the Intercollegiate Athletics Compliance Office.
