Alabama Athletics Compliance Policy Statement

Alabama Athletics is committed and obligated to the principle of institutional control in operating its athletics program in a manner that is consistent with the letter and spirit of NCAA, SEC and University rules and regulations.

The commitment and obligation to operate the intercollegiate athletics program in adherence to the principle of institutional control is both institutional and individual. The University's commitment to maintain control of its athletics programs through the responsible administrators, faculty, and institutional bodies; to educate coaches, staff, student-athletes and other individuals involved with the athletics program in their institutional responsibilities under the rules; to develop operating systems within the athletics department and the University that provide guidance in how to work within the rules; and to discover and report any violations of rules that occur. Each individual involved in intercollegiate athletics is obligated to maintain competency in knowledge of the rules; to act within his or her realm of responsibility in full compliance with the governing legislation; and to report any violations of NCAA, conference and/or institutional rules of which he or she is aware.

The primary functions of the Alabama Compliance Office:

  • To educate coaches, student-athletes, staff and supporters regarding NCAA and SEC Conference rules and the compliance expectations of the University.
  • To serve coaches, student-athletes, staff and supporters by providing accurate and timely interpretations of the rules and assisting them in their compliance efforts.
  • To monitor the activities of the athletics department and the University in a variety of critical areas (e.g., recruiting, eligibility certification, financial aid, amateurism, benefits, playing and practice season limitations) and verify compliance with all applicable rules.
  • To investigate and report violations of NCAA and SEC Conference rules.

The compliance office seeks to carry out these essential functions in a manner that promotes a positive compliance atmosphere and demonstrates an unwavering commitment to the highest standards of ethical behavior.

Mike Ward

Mike coordinates and oversees all day-to-day matters pertaining to the monitoring, interpretation, documenting and investigation of all NCAA, SEC, and university rules and regulations. He represent the University of Alabama on any institutional, conference, or national compliance issues.

Jonathan assists with the coordination and oversight of all day-to-day matters pertaining to the monitoring, interpretation, documenting and investigation of all NCAA, SEC, and university rules and regulations.
 
John McCammon
Director of Compliance

John is responsible for all aspects of compliance related to amateurism, recruiting, extra benefits, and playing and practice seasons. Specifically John monitors all NCAA Bylaw 13 activities for all UA Sports and coordinates all transfers. He is also the compliance liaison for Men's Basketball, Men's Tennis, Baseball, Men's and Women's Track and Cross Country.
 
Andreé Houston

Andreé is responsible for all aspects of compliance related to student-athlete eligibility (NCAA Bylaw 14). She handles all questions regarding initial or continuing eligibility, transfer eligibility and international student-athlete eligibility issues. Andreé is also the compliance liaison for Women's Basketball, Rowing, Women's Tennis, and Volleyball.
 
Matt Self

Matt is responsible for all aspects of compliance related to financial aid, scholarships, student-athlete housing and extra benefits, including student-athlete employment and awards. He is also involved in the athlete-agent education process. Additionally, Matt assists with the waiver and interpretive process and provides legal insight into the various issues that occur in compliance. Matt is the compliance liaison for Soccer, Softball, and Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving.  
 
Carol Lucas
Compliance Coordinator

Carol is responsible for all aspects of compliance related to financial aid, scholarships, and budgeting. She assists student-athletes with the student-athlete opportunity fund (SAOF) along with awards and benefits. Additionally, Carol is the compliance sport liaison for Men's and Women's Golf.
 
Amanda Gray

Amanda is responsible for maintaining all aspects of initial eligibility certification and record keeping for all female sports, in addition to Men's Basketball and Football. She is also involved in assisting with the National Letter of Intent program, CARA log monitoring, and Financial Aid.
 
Andrew Batteen

Andrew is responsible for various areas within Compliance including oversight of the Rolltide Compliance website, Crimson Chronicle Newsletter, compliance forms development, Booster Club auditing, Charity Requests, and Agent/Financial Advisor tracking. He is also responsible for maintaining initial eligibility records for all male sports including Football and Men's Basketball.
