Alabama Cross Country at the Paul Short Invitational this Saturday

The University of Alabama men's and women's cross country teams travel to Bethlehem, Pa., on Saturday, Oct. 5, for the third meet of the season. Action gets underway at the Goodman Campus of Lehigh University, with the women's team competing in the 6k at 9 a.m. (CT), and the men set to run in the 8k at 9:10 a.m. (CT).

In the Rankings

Both the men's and women's cross country teams are ranked in the Sept. 30 release of the USTFCCCA Regional rankings. The men are ranked 11th in the South Region, while the women are ranked seventh.

Paul Short Invitational

Hosted by Lehigh University, the 2013 edition of the Paul Short Invitational will feature 140 cross country teams from across the nation. This will be the first 8k the Alabama men have competed in this year, and the first 6k race for the Tide women.

Tide Women Sweep First Two Races

The women's team has won both races of the 2013 season, defeating Samford at the Samford Dual and a trio of teams - including No. 26 Iowa State - at the Iowa Black and Gold meet on Sept. 13.

Panagiotou & Greenleaf Lead the Tide

The Tide was led in the season opener by Meropi Panagiotou's victory by covering two-plus miles in 11 minutes, 22.76 seconds, just slightly ahead of the Tide's Katelyn Greenleaf (11:22.88). In the second meet at Iowa, Greenleaf took home second overall and was the first Crimson Tide runner, with a 4k time of 13:59.00, while Panagiotou rounded out the top 10 - that featured four Crimson Tide runners - with a 10th place finish of 14:29.55.

Men Have Strong Showing at Iowa

The men's team recorded three top 10 finishers at Iowa on Sept. 13 in a 6k race with Matt Airola (18:57.75), Gil Walton (19:00.25) and Justin Ahalt (19:01.17) finishing sixth, ninth and 10th, respectively.

Up Next

The Crimson Tide will host the Crimson Classic on Friday, Oct. 18, at the Harry Pritchett Running Park, in prepartions for the SEC Championships.
