TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -
Earth continues to be moved at the Sam Bailey Track Stadium as the facility’s complete renovation progresses. The venerable 37-year-old facility is undergoing its most extensive changes to date as an entirely new track and configuration will greet the Crimson Tide for the 2013 season.
“We’re making a track that will be as competitive as any in the conference and nation,” Alabama head coach Dan Waters said. “It will be an incredibly fast track that is efficient for meets and practice. It will affect every facet of the program and the huge commitment that the athletic department has made to track and field, starting with the lights to the remodeling of the stadium, is as exciting as you can imagine and we’re extremely thankful for the commitment.”
Work began on removing the existing surface on June 18 and the new surface will feature wider turns that promise faster times in the long sprints. To accommodate those turns, the majority of the field event runways will move to the infield of the facility. This adjustment, combined with drastic improvements to seating and fan amenities promises to enhance the overall fan experience at the facility and allow the Tide to host efficient and fan friendly meets in Tuscaloosa.
