DES MOINES, Iowa -
The University of Alabama track and field team continues to make a splash at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships being held in Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa this week.
Just a day after redshirt freshman Hayden Reed won the junior discus title, true freshman Justin Fondren won the junior high jump championship with a leap of 7-1 ¾ (2.18-meters). Fondren, who earned second-team All-American honors at the NCAA Championships earlier this month after finishing 13th in the high jump at the NCAA Championships, bettered the rest of the field by more than an inch.
With the win, the Oxford, Miss., native has potentially earned a place on the USA 2013 Pan American Junior Championship team.
In other Crimson Tide related action on Friday, junior All-American Diondre Batson took ninth in the semifinals of the senior 100m race, posting a 10.04, just three-hundredths of a second off his career-best, which came at the NCAA Championships in Eugne, Ore., where Batson finished fourth in the 100m and 9th in the 200m.
