Hayden Reed Wins USA Track and Field Junior Discus Title

DES MOINES, Iowa - University of Alabama freshman thrower Hayden Reed won the discus on Thursday at the 2013 USA Track & Field Junior Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, with a winning throw of 206 feet, 2 inches (62.84 meters).

Reed made his winning effort on his only legal throw of the day, easily outpacing the field. Reed, who redshirted at Alabama during the 2013 indoor and outdoor seasons, earned a spot on the U.S. National Team that will compete in the upcoming World Junior Championships to be held August 23-25 in Medellin, Colombia.

A native of Orange, Texas, Reed attended Little Cypress-Mauriceville high school. As a senior, he was the 2012 Texas Class 4A state champion in the discus (196-2) and was second in the shot put (62-5 1/4) . As junior, won the 2011 Texas Class 4A state champion in both the shot put (62-8 3/4) and the discus (186-3).
