TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Seven members of the University of Alabama track and field teams earned All-Southeastern Conference honors for the outdoor season the league office announced Tuesday.
The Crimson Tide earned one first-team selection, while four athletes received second-team honors. Three freshmen were named to the conference's all-freshman team.
The All-SEC First Team consists of the winner of each event at the SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, while the Second Team is comprised of the second and third-place finishers in each event.
Senior Yanique Malcolm earned All-SEC first team honors for her conference title win in the 800 meters. Malcolm became the first Alabama woman to win an individual SEC outdoor title since 2010 and the first in the 800m since Donna Cargill won in 1996. The Jamaica native's winning time of 2:03.28 is a new personal best and ranks second in school history.
Sophomore Elias Hakansson, redshirt freshman Hayden Reed and juniors Remona Burchell and Nia Barnes all earned Second Team All-SEC honors. Hakansson finished runner-up in the men's hammer throw at the SEC Outdoor Championships, while Reed finished second in the men's discus. Burchell was second in the women's 100 meters while Barnes was third in the women's hammer throw.
Reed also earned a place on the SEC All-Freshman Team, which consists of the top freshman finisher in each event at the SEC Outdoor Championships. Joining Reed on the men's All-Freshman Team are Jacopo Lahbi (800m) and Kyle Felpel (shot put).
The track and field team returns to action this weekend, May 29-31, for the NCAA East Regional in Jacksonville, Florida.
