10 Track and Field Athletes Earn All-SEC Honors

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The University of Alabama track and field garnered nine selections to the All-SEC teams, announced by the Southeastern Conference (SEC) office Friday, May 17.

The Crimson Tide earned one first-team selection while four athletes received second team honors. Four freshmen were named to the all-freshman team.

Diondre Batson earned All-SEC First Team honors for his win at the SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the 100 meters. Batson became the first Crimson Tide sprinter since 2006 to win the 100 meters at the outdoor championships and the third sprinter from the Capstone to win the 100 meters. The native of Sacramento, Calif., ran a winning time of 10.12 last weekend, while his best time of the year is 10.06.

Earning All-SEC Second Team honors from UA were Dushane Farrier, Akeem Haynes, Alex Sanders and Justin Fondren. Farrier, Haynes and Sanders competed on the 4x100-meter relay team that finished second at the SEC Outdoor Championships, while Fondren took home second in the high jump.

Four men and one woman were named to the SEC All-Freshman Team. The SEC All-Freshman Team represents the top freshman finisher in each event at the SEC Outdoor Championships. Robbie Farnham-Rose was the top freshman finisher in the 1,500 meters, while Imani Brown (Triple Jump), Elias Hakansson (Hammer Throw), Justin Fondren (High Jump) and Katelyn Greenleaf (10,000 Meters) all garnered selections to the SEC All-Freshman Team as well.

The track and field team return to action next Thursday, May 23, as the Tide travels to Greensboro, N.C., for the NCAA East Regional.
