The University of Alabama track and field team has 13 entries that were accepted into the NCAA Championships East Region Preliminary field, the NCAA announced Thursday.

The women’s team has eight performances this season that rank in the top 48 in the East Region to qualify for the opportunity to advance to the NCAA Championships while the men’s team has five.

The East Region Preliminary Round will be hosted by North Florida May 24-26 in Jacksonville, Fla. The top 12 finishers in each event will qualify for the NCAA Championships June 6-9 in Des Moines, Iowa.

Highlighting the Tide’s qualifiers on the women’s side are Krystle Schade and Alexis Paine who rank fifth and 11th in the high jump and pole vault, respectively this season. Schade, the SEC Indoor Champion and NCAA indoor runner-up has cleared a season-best 6-0 this season. Paine set a school record earlier this season by vaulting over 13-5.25. In addition to qualifying for the East Region in the 100-meter hurdles, Kaylon Eppinger’s personal best heptathlon score of 5,560 was also good enough to automatically move her into the NCAA Championship field in the event.

The men’s team qualified athletes in three of the four jumps with Tyler Campbell in the high jump, Warrick Campbell in the triple jump and All-American Kamal Fuller, who ranks eighth in the region at 25-8.75, in the long jump. The men’s team also qualified Dwayne Extol in the 200 meters and Gary Bradbury in the 1,500 meters.

The Tide will get competition at the East Region Preliminary Round underway on the track on Thursday, May 24 at 4 p.m. CDT when Shani Chandler steps in the blocks for the women’s 400-meter hurdles and in field events at noon with Fuller in the long jump.
