BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -

University of Alabama seniors Terrell Mickens and Amethyst Holmes have been named to the Southeastern Conference Community Service Team, the conference announced Monday afternoon.

The pair join student-athletes for all 12 SEC programs in being honored for their work in the community.

The honor is the second Community Service Team honor for Holmes who was named to the team last season. The SEC named her to its 2012 squad for her work in Athletic Department initiatives such as Project Angel Tree, Spring Fling Extravaganza, Power of Pink and mentoring girls at Westlawn Middle School. She also aided in recovery and rebuilding efforts following the April 27, 2011, tornado that affected Tuscaloosa and has served as a PLUS Literacy Program tutor.

Mickens received the honor, the first of his career, for his involvement in various projects and aiding in tornado recovery efforts, especially in the Holt community. He has also participated in UA’s Hands On Tuscaloosa initiative and assisted with Feed Tuscaloosa to provide food and packed lunched for school children in need. He joined his teammates in participating in UA Athletics events such as the Halloween Extravaganza and Project Angel Tree.
