TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama men's track & field team is ranked 7th in the latest edition of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division I National Team Computer Rankings released this morning. The No. 7 ranking is the highest ranking ever attained by the Crimson Tide in the seven-year history of the rankings, eclipsing the previous best of No. 9 attained just twice in school history -- last week and in the second week of 2008 outdoor season. The national team rankings are compiled by mathematical formulae based on national descending order lists and data taken from previous seasons. The purpose and methodology of the rankings is to create an index that showcases the teams that have the best potential of achieving the top spots in the national team race. Rankings points do not equate with NCAA Championships team points.

Last weekend, the Crimson Tide won 14 events and set more than a dozen personal bests at the inaugural Border Clash at Sam Bailey Track and Field Stadium. The Crimson Tide had 10 performances in nine events land in the school's all-time top 10 during the meet, which pitted teams from the state of Alabama (Alabama, Auburn and Samford) against teams from the state of Mississippi (Mississippi, Mississippi State and Southern Mississippi). This week, the Crimson Tide heads out to the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut Creek, Calif., and will compete Thursday-Saturday.
