5 Alabama Athletes Qualify for NCAA Track & Field Indoor Championships

Five University of Alabama student-athletes will represent the Crimson Tide this weekend at the 2013 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships slated for Friday-Saturday at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark.

Three men and two women have made the qualifying fields in their respective events: Krystle Schade in the women's high jump; Alexis Paine in the women's pole vault; Diondre Batson in the men's 200 meters; Kamal Fuller in the men's long jump; and Jonathan Reid in the men's triple jump.

The NCAA field of competitors limits at 16 the amount of competitors for each event at the NCAA Track & Field Championships. Schade and Batson rank among the top 10 in the nation in their respective events. Schade's 2013 seasonal best high jump clearance of 6 feet, 2 inches ranks tied for the fifth-best mark nationally this season. Batson's seasonal best time of 20.81 in the 200 meters ranks tied for the ninth-best time in the nation overall.

Fuller is a returning all-American in the long jump after a 14th-place finish in 2012. His 2013 seasonal best of 25 feet, 8 3/4 inches (7.84 meters) is the seventh-best in the nationl this year. Reid's triple jump best of 52-3 1/4 (15.93m) tied for the 14th-best in the NCAA field this season.
