JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Two University of Alabama athletes and two relay teams earned their way to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships Saturday, on the third and final day of the NCAA East Regional Preliminaries at Hodges Stadium on the campus of the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Florida.

The Crimson Tide will send 19 athletes in 14 events for an overall total of 15 entries to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon, June 11-15.

Using a makeshift lineup, Alabama clocked a 39.58 in the men's 4x100-meter relay to earn a trip to Eugene. Three of the usual relay members--sophomore Dwight Davis and seniors Alex Sanders and Akeem Haynes--were joined by senior and five-time All-American long jumper Kamal Fuller, who was competing in his first relay competition this season.

Sophomore Justin Fondren wasted no time in his attempt to qualify in the men's high jump, as he cleared each of the four height progressions on the first try. Fondren finished in a two-way tie for first place after a final clearance of 2.17 meters (7 feet, 1.50 inches).

Other Alabama athletes who advanced to the NCAA Championships Saturday include redshirt freshman Hayden Reed in the discus and the women's 4x100-meter relay team of freshman Quanesha Burks, junior Remona Burchell, junior Dominique Kimpel and senior Sarah Thomas.

An event-by-event breakdown of Alabama's performances Saturday:

TRACK EVENTS

Men

4x100-meter relay: Alabama's quartet of senior Alex Sanders, sophomore Dwight Davis, senior Akeem Haynes and senior Kamal Fuller clocked a 39.58 to finish second in Heat 1 of the men's 4x100-meter relay and advance to the NCAA Championships. Fuller, a long jumper by trade, ran a steady anchor leg to keep the Tide in a top three automatic qualifying position.

4x400-meter relay: Alabama's team of sophomore Dwight Davis, junior Alex Amankwah, freshman Jacopo Lahbi and senior Ken Taylor clocked a 3:07.26 to finish 13th in the men's 4x400-meter relay, one spot from advancing to the NCAA Championships.

Women

4x100-meter relay: Alabama's foursome of freshman Quanesha Burks, junior Remona Burchell, junior Dominique Kimpel and senior Sarah Thomas finished third in Heat 1 of the women's 4x100-meter relay with a time of 44.24 and advanced to the NCAA Championships. Despite a poor second exchange between Burchell and Kimpel, the Tide had the fifth-best time of the day.

4x400-meter relay: Alabama's group of senior Shani Chandler, junior Dominique Kimpel, freshman Alex Gholston and senior Yanique Malcolm clocked a time of 3:37.43 to finish 18th in the women's 4x400-meter relay.

FIELD EVENTS

High Jump: Sophomore Justin Fondren made short work of the men's high jump, and punched his ticket to Eugene by clearing all four heights, each on his first attempt. Fondren tied for first in the event with a final clearance of 2.17 meters (7 feet, 1.50 inches).

Women

Shot Put: Junior Candicea Bernard threw a personal-best 16.11 meters (52 feet, 10.25 inches) but finished 14th in the women's shot put, just two places from advancing to the NCAA Championships.
