Track & Field Scores Points in the Heptathlon and Hammer Throw

BATON ROUGE, La. - The University of Alabama track and field team scored points in the women’s heptathlon and hammer throw on the second day of the Southeastern Conference Outdoor Championships Friday at LSU’s Bernie Moore Track Stadium. The Crimson Tide also advanced another student-athlete to the finals of the women’s 400-meter hurdles. Senior Kaylon Eppinger had the Tide’s highest finish of the day with a third-place showing in the heptathlon. She finished the seven-discipline event with a personal best 5,560 points, just three points shy of second place to record second highest total in school history. The women’s squad also scored points in the hammer throw thanks to seventh and eighth place finishes from Amethyst Holmes and Lee Stowers. In the men’s hammer throw, Charodd Richard bettered his personal best by nearly eight feet to finish 11th with a throw of 167-3. On the track, Shani Chandler advanced to the finals of the women’s 400-meter hurdles by finishing eighth in the qualifying heats with a time of 59.10, her second fastest time of the season. She will compete in the finals of the event on Sunday at 5 p.m. The Tide returns to action on Saturday afternoon with the javelin at 2 p.m. A full afternoon of action follows with action on the oval starting at 4:30 p.m. with the 1,500 meters.
