Distance Crew Leads UA on First Day of War Eagle Invitational

AUBURN, Ala. -

The University of Alabama track and field team’s first day at the Auburn War Eagle Invitational was highlighted by the team’s 1,500 meter runners.

Gary Bradbury won the invitational section of the men’s 1,500 meter race with a near personal best of 3:44.51. His time was also just shy of cracking the all-time top 10 at UA. In the women’s 1,500 meters, Leigh Gilmore was the top collegiate finisher and third overall in 4:30.95 behind to unattached athletes. Katlyn Will, Elsbeth Denton and Kelsey Johnson finished behind her in fifth, sixth and eighth, respectively.

Palee Myrex shaved nearly 14 seconds off her personal best in the women’s 5,000 meters to finish seventh in 17:43.82.

In the throws on Friday, Brittany Hines won the javelin with a toss of 139-5 while Amethyst Holmes was fifth in the hammer throw at 182-7.

The team will return to action tomorrow with field events beginning at 11 a.m. Action on the track gets underway at 1 p.m.
