TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The University of Alabama swimming and diving team has signed Brittany Parkey (Alpharetta, Ga.) to a National Letter of Intent head coach Eric McIlquham announced this week.
"Brittany is a talented breaststroker who is also an outstanding student," McIlquham said. "We feel she is a great addition to our program."
Parkey is coached by Rich Murphy at Dynamo Swim Club and Emily Santowski and Lisa Marshall at Alpharetta High School. She is the Alpharetta school record holder in the 100 breaststroke and was runner-up in the 100 breaststroke at the state championships in 2009. A member of the 2009 Southeastern Zone team, she finished second in the 200-meter breaststroke at the 2009 State Championships.
"After visiting campus I felt that Alabama had everything to offer me," Parkey said. "They have an awesome group of coaches and swimmers with great enthusiasm that I could definitely see myself being a part of."
The daughter of Rosalie and William Parkey, she is a member of the National Honor Society, a two-time USA Swimming Academic All-American and an AP Scholar Award winner.
