TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The University of Alabama swimming and diving team has signed Ana Carvalho to a National Letter of Intent head coach Eric McIlquham announced this week.

"Ana brings a great deal of talent to the pool and will be able to give us a boost in individual events as well as relays," McIlquham said. "She has extensive international experience and that will give her a boost when it comes to racing in the always tough Southeastern Conference."

A native of Sao Paulo, Brazil, Carvalho is coached by André Ferreira at Esporte Clube Pinheiros. Last summer, she won a gold medal for Brazil in the 50-meter breaststroke at the South American Games. She has also competed at the World Junior Championships and the World Championships in 2009 as well as the 2010 Pan Pacific Games and the 2008 Open de Paris.

A senior at Colegio Santa Cecilia, she is the daughter of Adriana and Edson Carvalho.
