TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -
The Alabama men's and women's swimming and diving teams head to Atlanta this weekend for the Georgia Tech Invitational where the Crimson Tide will face off against a half dozen schools.
"This will be the first competition this season where we've backed down in our training even a little bit," UA head coach Dennis Pursley said. "We've been powering through the other meets on our schedule so far, but we've taken two days and given them a little rest and hopefully we'll see a little bit of a pop this weekend."
In addition to the homestanding Yellow Jackets, Alabama will compete against Florida State, Miami, Clemson, Emory and Florida Gulf Coast. The invitational runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday and is set up championship style with prelims and finals each day.
"We'll have the opportunity to get a lot of racing in this weekend and kind of see where we are," Pursley said. "After this meet, we'll evaluate things and solidify our plan going into the championships season. Everything we're doing this season is pointing toward being our best when the postseason rolls around."
Alabama will start things off on Friday with the 200 freestyle and 400 medley relays and will also compete in the 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley and the 50 freestyle as well as the women's 1-meter and the men's 3-meter diving.
