Swimming and Diving Signs Orsolya Tompa to a National Letter of Intent

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The University of Alabama Swimming and Diving team has signed Orsolya Tompa to a National Letter of Intent head coach Eric McIlquham announced this week.

"Orsolya is a world class sprinter who brings a great deal of international experience to the table," McIlquham said. "She will have an immediate impact both in individual and relay events."

A member of the 2008 Hungarian Olympic team, Tompa swam the 100-meter freestyle in Beijing, finishing third in her heat of the preliminaries and 40th overall. She was part of Hungary's 800m freestyle relay that took sixth at the 2008 European Championships.

A native of Budapest, Tompa won the 100m butterfly and was third in the 100m freestyle at the 2007 European Junior Championships and was 33rd in the 100m butterfly at the 2009 World Championships. She is the daughter of Adam and Gabriella Tompa.
