TUSCALOOSA, Ala. Two Alabama athletes earned Southeastern Conference Swimming and Diving honors this week the league office announced today.
Sophomore Aaron Fleshner was named SEC Diver of the Week, while Catalin Cosma was named SEC Freshman of the Week.
“Both Aaron and Catalin did a great job in our first meet of the season, getting things going in the right direction,” Alabama head coach Eric McIlquham said. “They’re part of the core of this very young Alabama team and our success this season is going to be built on those kinds of performances. “
Fleshner faced off against NCAA Champion Terry Horner of Florida State at the Georgia Tech Quad Meet last Saturday, winning the three-meter diving competition and taking second off the one-meter board. His scores rank him second in the SEC off both the one and three-meter board. The Spring, Texas native also holds the highest average rank in the league.
Cosma won the 500 freestyle in his first collegiate outing and took third in the 1000 freestyle. His 500 time from the Georgia Tech Quad meet rank him third in the conference and first among freshmen.
