BARCELONA, Spain -
Incoming Alabama swimming and diving freshman Anton Mckee finished 26th in the 400-meter individual medley on the final day of the FINA World Championships being held in Barcelona, Spain at the at the Palau Sant Jordi complex which was home to the swimming events at the 1992 Olympics.
Mckee clocked a time of four minutes and 23.99 seconds, just nine-hundredths of a second out of 25th place. The Iceland, native swam four-tenths of a second faster than his qualifying time in one of the most grueling events in swimming.
Earlier in the week rising senior Kristel Vourna turned in a time of 1:00.33 in the 100m butterfly to take 27th place while incoming freshman Kristian Gkolomeev was 24th in the men's 50m freestyle with a time of 22.62. Alabama's World Championship run opened with incoming freshman Bonnie Macdonald finishing 14th in the 5-kilometer open water event Moll de la Fusta Harbor.
