BARCELONA, Spain -
Incoming Alabama freshman swimmer Kristian Gkolomeev finished 24th in the 50-meter freestyle at the 15th FINA World Championships being held in Barcelona, Spain.
Gkolomeev, a native of Athens, Greece, touched the wall in a time of 22.62 seconds. Born in 1993, he was the second youngest swimmer in the top-25.
The sprinter is the third Alabama swimmer to compete in these World Championships, following rising senior Kristel Vourna ,who finished 27th in the 100m butterfly, and fellow rookie Bonnie Macdonald, who finished 14th in the 5-kilometer open water swim.
The Crimson Tide's run at the World Championships will come to a close later in the week when incoming freshman Anton Mckee will swim the 400m individual medley.
