TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -
Members of the Alabama Swimming and Diving alumni family have come together to create The John Servati Memorial Scholarship Fund as a way to honor Servati, who died on April 28, 2014 in Tuscaloosa.
"Our alumni really wanted to come up with a meaningful way to honor John and all he meant not only to our team, but to everyone he came in contact with," UA head coach Dennis Pursley said. "John was an extraordinary young man and this is a way that we can honor his legacy and continue the good work that he started while he was here."
Servati, who had just finished his junior year, was a three-time member of the Southeastern Conference Honor Roll and an SEC Championships scorer, was killed during the severe storms and tornados that swept through the area. An outstanding athlete and student, he was also active in his faith and in the community at large.
The outpouring of support has been widespread and heartfelt, stretching from coast to coast to include alumni, friends, fans and rivals alike. The scholarship fund gives everyone who wants to a way to take part in the honoring Servati's memory and his legacy. The money raised will fund an endowed men's swimming and diving scholarship in Servati's name.
