TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -
All-American sprinter BJ Hornikel will compete in a trio of freestyle events at the 2013 NCAA Championships in Indianapolis, Ind., this week, including the 50, 100 and 200 freestyles.
"BJ is a veteran of this meet," UA head coach Dennis Pursley said. "He's also coming off person best times at the conference championships. There's no doubt that he still has more that he wants to accomplish this season. He wants to continue to move forward."
Hornikel posted top-5 finishes in the 100 and 200 freestyle in College Station, Texas at the Southeastern Conference Championships last month. He also earned a place in the championship final of the 50, 100 and 200 freestyles and posted career-best times in all three at the SEC Championships.
As a sophomore, Hornikel earned honorable mention All-American honors in the 100 freestyle after taking 13th place at the NCAA Championships. He also posted a top-25 finish in the 200 freestyle at last year's national championships.
Hornikel is ranked second all-time at Alabama in all three sprint freestyle events. In the 100 and 200 freestyle, he ranks just behind Tide legend and four-time Olympic gold medalist Jon Olsen.
