AUBURN, Ala. - Alabama sophomore Kristel Vourna scored in the 100 butterfly at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships being held in the James E. Martin Aquatic Center in Auburn, Ala. this week, earning honorable mention All-American honors in the process.
Vourna, who was 15th coming out of prelims, moved up four places to 11th place in finals with a time of 52.31. As a freshman, Vourna was 17th in the 100 butterfly at the national championships, one place out of scoring and just outside of earning honorable mention All-American honors.
Earlier in the day, freshman Kaylin Burchell took 26th place in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:00.86 while sophomore Alex Popa was 44th with a 1:02.93.
Burchell and Popa return to action Saturday, swimming the 200 breaststroke. Popa is third and Burchell is fourth all-time for the Tide in the 200 breaststroke.
Saturday marks the final day of competition at the national championships Preliminaries will get underway at 11 a.m. CDT while finals are slated to start at 7 p.m. CDT. Prelims will stream live on NCAA.com while finals will air on ESPN3.
