The Alabama men's and women's swimming and diving teams fell to the LSU Tigers Friday afternoon at the LSU Natatorium.
The men's score was 196-104 while the women's tally was 200.5-98.5. Alabama's men go to 1-2 overall and 0-2 in Southeastern Conference competition, while the women are now 2-2 overall, in the 1-2 SEC. The Tiger men go to 2-1, 1-1 SEC while the LSU women are 5-1, 2-1 SEC.
Junior All-American and 2012 Olympian Kristel Vourna remains undefeated in the 100 butterfly this season, posting a time of 54.38 for the win. Senior Jenna Gallo won the 500 and 1,000 freestyles with times of 4:59.97 and 10:09.46, respectively. The Tide's lone senior, Gallo has now won both the 500 and 1,000 in three of the Tide's four meets this season. Junior Paige McCleary notched a win off the 3-meter board with a score of 340.20, outpointing her nearest competition by more than 30 points.
On the men's side of the meet, junior All-American BJ Hornikel won the 100 and 200 freestyles with times of 44.81 and 1:39.62. Throughout his career, Hornikel has lost the 100 freestyle only once in dual meet competition. On the other end of the distance spectrum, freshman Brian Westlake won the 500 and 1,000 freestyles, touching the wall at 4:28.52 and 9:14.28, earning the third and fourth individual wins of his Alabama career.
The Tide returns to action November 30 at the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta, Ga.
