Alabama Diver Paige McCleary Earns NCAA Championship Berth

GREENSBORO, N.C. - University of Alabama diver Paige McCleary earned a berth at the upcoming NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships after taking third place off the 3-meter board on day two of the NCAA Zone B Championships in Greensboro, N.C.

McCleary was in fifth place after the preliminary round, one place out of an automatic bid to NCAA Championships, with 326.25 points. In finals, the senior scored 346 points over six dives for a combined total of 672.25, to take third overall. Her finish earned her one of nine bids available to the NCAA Championships out of Zone B.

The 2011 Southeastern Conference Freshman Diver of the Year, McCleary will be making her first trip to the national championships later this month. McCleary will be joining swimmers Kristel Vourna, Kaylin Burchell, Bridget Blood, Stephanie Kinsey, Justine Panian, Emma Saunders and Bailey Scott, who already earned invitations to NCAAs, which will be held March 20-22 in Minneapolis, Minn.

In other Zone B action, freshman Dakota Toner was 30th off the 3-meter board, scoring 241.90 points in prelims while rookie Taylor Zablocki was 36th after tallying 228.55 points. On the men's side of the meet, freshman Brent Sagert took 20th off the 1-meter board with a total of 273.10 points.

Both the men and women will compete off the platform on Wednesday, the Zone B Championships' final day.
