GREENSBORO, N.C. -
Alabama diver Paige McCleary finished eighth off the 1-meter board on day one of the NCAA Zone B Championships being held in Greensboro, N.C. this week.
In 11th place after the preliminaries, McCleary moved up three spots in the afternoon after tallying 300.60 points in finals for a combined score of 590.85. The senior is vying for one of nine women's slots available to the NCAA Championships out of Zone B.
Each NCAA Championship diving berth is allocated based on finishes in all three events during each Zone meet. There are five Zone diving meets across the country that feed into the men's and women's NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships which get underway later this month.
On the men's side of the slate, Brent Sagert was the Tide's top finisher, taking 16th place off the 3-meter board with 620.25 combined points between prelims and finals. The freshman was in 14th place through six dives after posting 318.25 points in prelims. Sagert is vying for one of seven diving berths available to the men's NCAA Championships from Zone B.
Freshman Taylor Zablocki finished 27th in the prelims of the women's 1-meter event with 243.95 points while fellow rookie Dakota Toner, was 41st with 214.30 points. Freshman Sarah Musselman was 49th with 183.20 points off the 1-meter board.
The women return to action Tuesday, competing off the 3-meter board while the men will compete off the 1-meter.
