Alabama Cheer Team Wins National Championship in Orlando
Jan. 18, 2011
ORLANDO, Fla. - The University of Alabama cheer squad won the 2011 College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championships, hosted by Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA), on Sunday. The UCA sanctioned national championship event from Jan. 14-17 was held at the Jostens Center at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex on the Disney properties.
The Crimson Tide cheerleaders composed a top notch performance that was better than 14 other schools at the national competition. The championship for the Tide is the first since 1984, according to head cheer squad coordinator David McDowell.
"It's awesome for our program," McDowell said. "To be so close every year and not being able to get over the top, it says a lot for us to go down there and put a routine on the floor that was better than everybody else. It speaks volumes for our kids and what they have gone through this year. We're all excited and get ready to start again for next year."
