KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Alabama softball fell, 5-1, in Friday's series opener at Tennessee.
Alabama (23-9, 1-3 SEC) and Tennessee (25-1, 7-0 SEC) were scoreless until the Lady Vols got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the third. With the score still 2-0 in the bottom of the fifth, Lair Beautae doubled the Lady Vols' lead with a two-run home run. A Bailey Dowling solo home run in the seventh erased the shutout but it was too little, too late as the Crimson Tide could not rally in the seventh.
The home run extends Dowling's current hitting streak to six games, which is tied for her career long set last season. Montana Fouts (11-5) went the distance in the losing effort, striking out six batters to put her 19 away from tying fourth-place Shelley Laird on Alabama's career record books.
