Head Coach Kristy Curry closes out first day with surprise scholarship announcement
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women's basketball team held its first official practice of the 2017-18 season on Monday inside Foster Auditorium. It was the first of 30 practice sessions for the Crimson Tide prior to tipping off the regular season on Friday, Nov. 10.
Practice ended with its usual circle time, however some special news was delivered via an envelope to junior Taylor Berry, who found out she had earned a scholarship.
"Reading that letter today was so surreal," said Berry. "Words cannot express how grateful I am. Everyone involved in this program, including the coaches, my teammates and all of the support staff, is amazing, and I am blessed to be a part of this team."
Alabama returns its entire squad from a season ago and adds four newcomers. The Tide roster features six seniors (Quanetria Bolton, Alana da Silva, Hannah Cook, Coco Knight, Meoshonti Knight and Ashley Williams), three juniors (Berry, DaiJia Ruffin and Shaquera Wade), four sophomores (Ashley Knight, Jordan Lewis, Amber Richardson and Jasmine Walker) and one freshman (Ariyah Copeland).
"Today was great," said head coach Kristy Curry, who is entering her fifth season at the helm. "We've had our two hours a week where we have been able to break down in position and then work with our team for two one-hour sessions here for a few weeks, so we were able to lay the foundation in those workouts. Now, we are able to go full speed ahead."
The first chance to see the 2017-18 squad will be at the third annual SupeStore Tide Tipoff event, which will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 24. Doors open at 6 p.m. for autographs, and the event will follow at 7 p.m.
Alabama will play its lone exhibition game on Wednesday, Nov. 1, against Antelope Valley at 7 p.m. before the Tide tips off its regular season.
Season tickets are currently on sale and can be purchased here or by calling 1-877-TIDETIX (843-3849). Fans can also purchase tickets in advance at the Alabama Ticket Office, located in the lobby of Coleman Coliseum. Single game tickets will go on sale Monday, Oct. 23.
