Alabama Rowing Competes at Cardinal Invitational Saturday

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. - Alabama continued its spring season on Saturday at the Cardinal Invitational on Melton Lake in Oak Ridge, Tenn. There, Alabama competed in 12 races, including victories in the First and Second Novice 8.
"Today's performance was markedly better than last year," Head Coach Larry Davis said. "It was especially better in our 8's against much better competition. Today's results indicate that we are making headway towards achieving our conference goals for the spring."
Alabama's Novice 8 took home the team's first even victory of the day in the morning session, defeating crews from Michigan State, Kansas and Oklahoma with a time of 6:57.23. The Tide took the top two spots in the Second Novice 8, finishing in 6:58.66 and 7:01.86, respectively. Alabama's Varsity 8 turned in the team's top time in the morning session, crossing the line in 6:45.34. They did so again in the afternoon session with a time of 6:58.90.
Next up, Alabama will split its team between two different races next weekend. A portion of the team will head to Sacramento, Calif., for the Lake Natoma Regatta while the remaining boats will compete in Tuscaloosa against Drake on Saturday, March 19 at 9 a.m. on the Black Warrior River.
