Barry Allen is in his 25th year as a member of the University of Alabama Media Relations Office. Allen began his career as a student assistant and intern (1984-90) before becoming a full-time member of the office after the 1989-90 academic year.

Since joining the office, Allen has worked with football, men's and women's basketball, baseball, cross country and track and field.

He is currently involved with the Alabama football and baseball teams. His day-to-day duties include compilation of statistics for football and baseball, writing and editing game notes and news releases and coordinating player and coach interviews. Allen also writes and edits the Alabama Baseball Media Guide.

He was named to the 2007 recipient of the Wilbur Snypp Award for his long-time service to college baseball and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. He served as the organization's president in 200-01 and is currently in his ninth year as member of the Board of Directors. He assists the NCBWA with their pre and post season All-American teams and the Dick Howser Trophy, presented annually to the collegiate player of the year at the College World Series. Allen has attended the CWS on nine different occasions.

A member of the Alabama Sports Writers Association, Allen teamed with Greg Seitz (Jacksonville State University) to form the inaugural ASWA Baseball Media Day at Regions Park prior to the 2007 college baseball season. The event will be in its third year this February (2009) in Hoover.

A native of Anniston, Ala., Allen is married to the former Carla McLendon (July 15, 2000) and the couple has two children, Elle (7) and Annie (5).

His favorite pastime, outside his family, includes traveling to professional baseball games, where he has seen more than 200 major league and minor league ballparks. An avid Cincinnati Reds fans, he is also a sports memorabilia collector.
