BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The University of Alabama placed 77 student-athletes from nine different teams on the Southeastern Conference's Spring Academic Honor Roll, the league office announced Tuesday.
The Crimson Tide's 2013 NCAA Champion men's golf team had five players named to the list, including four members of the 2012-13 Golfweek All-American team - Justin Thomas, Cory Whitsett, Scott Strohmeyer and Bobby Wyatt. The Alabama softball team garnered an SEC-best 15 players on the honor roll, including a trio of NFCA All-American - Kayla Braud, Jackie Traina and Kaila Hunt.
The softball team's 15 honorees led the way for the Tide, followed by the 12 members of the rowing team and the 12 members of the women's track and field team. The Alabama baseball team placed 11 members on the honor roll; women's golf, men's tennis and men's track and field each landed six student-athletes on the honor roll, followed by the four members of the women's tennis team.
To earn a place on the honor roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.0 or better grade point average for either the preceding academic year or their career and be a sophomore or better in academic standing. The spring list honors those student-athletes that participate in baseball, men's and women's golf, rowing, softball, men's and women's tennis, and men's and women's track and field. A total of 1,247 SEC student-athletes earned the honor during the spring season.
So far this season, Alabama has placed 167 student-athletes on the SEC Fall, Winter and Spring honor rolls. There will additional names added to Tide's tally when the first-year list comes out later in the summer.
