53 University of Alabama Student-Athletes Received Diplomas on Saturday
May 9, 2009 TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Fifty-three current University of Alabama student-athletes received their diplomas Saturday in commencement ceremonies held in Coleman Coliseum on the Tuscaloosa campus. Former UA football star Sam Shade, a 1993 First Team All-SEC safety and a letterman from 1991-94, received his undergraduate degree in finance on Saturday. Among the student-athletes were 11 members of the Crimson Tide football team, including offensive lineman Mike Johnson, punter P.J. Fitzgerald, offensive lineman Marlon Davis and defensive lineman Lorenzo Washington. Also graduating were eight members of the Alabama baseball team; five members of the UA women’s track team; four members of the Tide’s men’s tennis and men’s swimming and diving teams; three members of the Alabama women’s rowing, women’s soccer, men’s basketball and men’s track squads; two members of the Tide’s women’s swimming and diving, softball and women’s volleyball teams; and one member of the Tide’s women’s basketball, women’s golf and men’s golf teams.
