BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - For the second year in a row the University of Alabama topped the Southeastern Conference Winter Academic Honor Roll SEC Commissioner Mike Slive announced today. The Crimson Tide's league-best 55 honorees is seven better than UA's 2009 total. Florida was second with 53 honors and Georgia was third with 42.

"To lead the league in this honor for the second year in a row speaks to the dedication and drive that our student-athletes have to be the best in all things, especially academics," Alabama Director of Athletics Mal Moore said. "It also speaks volumes about the effort that Jon Dever and our academic support staff, as well as that of our coaches and student-athletes, put into maintaining a very high level of success in our academic endeavors."

The women's swimming and diving team led the way for the Tide again this year with 26 student-athletes, which is once again the highest total of any school and any sport. The men's swimming and diving team placed 12 on the list.

The gymnastics team saw 11 of its upperclassmen earn the honor, a total that was best among league's gymnastics teams, while the women's basketball team had five honorees while the men's basketball team had one.

To earn a place on the honor roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.0 or better grade point average for either the preceding academic year or their career and be a sophomore or better in academic standing. The winter list honors those student-athletes that participate in men's and women's basketball, gymnastics and men's and women's swimming and diving.

The Tide's football, soccer and volleyball teams, which were honored earlier this year, put 51 student-athletes on the fall honor roll. The conference will recognize the sports whose championships are in the spring, as well as this year's freshmen, at a later date.
