TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - A total of 45 University of Alabama student-athletes, representing football, soccer and volleyball, were named to the 2010 Southeastern Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll the league office announced Wednesday.
The Crimson Tide football team had 27 players named to the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll, third in the SEC, behind South Carolina, 31, and Vanderbilt, 30.
The complete list of football players include: Jonathan Atchison (Pre-Business), John Baites (General Business), David Blalock (Accounting), Chris Bonds (Kinesiology), Hardie Buck (Marketing), Drew Ballard (Mechanical Engineering), Nate Carlson (Public Relations), D.J. Fluker (Health Studies), Brandon Gibson (Public Relations), Ben Howell (Telecommunication and Film), Aaron Joiner (Pre-Medical), Barrett Jones (Accounting), Samuel Kearns (General Studies), Kendall Kelly (Undeclared), Nathan McAlister (Pre-Business), AJ McCarron (Undeclared), Greg McElroy (Sports Management), William Ming (Finance), Wesley Neighbors (Finance), Kevin Norwood (Undeclared), Morgan Ogilvie (Finance), Tana Patrick (Restaurant and Hotel Management), Trent Richardson (Undeclared), Brad Smelley (Marketing), Logan Thomas (Communication Studies), Chance Warmack (Public Relations) and Kellen Williams (Education).
Seven volleyball student-athletes made the Academic Honor Roll this season, including: Mary Catherine Aune (Advertising), Kayla Fitterer (Accounting), Calli Johnson (Sport Management), Alyssa Meuth (Human Development and Family Studies), Leigh Moyer (Art), Stephanie Riley (Biology) and Kayla Schmidt (Exercise Science).
The soccer team had 11 student-athletes named to the honor roll, including: Justine Bernier (General Studies), Victoria Frederick (Biology), Hailey Hull (Food and Nutrition), Kelly King (Public Relations), Shannon Lathrop (Food and Nutrition), Carly Mygrants (Public Relations), Laura Nicholls (Restaurant and Hospitality Management), Rosaly Petriello (Early Childhood Education), Brooke Rogers (Finance), Lindsey Sillers (Food and Nutrition) and Katie Woolbright (Marketing).
The conference recognizes its true freshmen based on grades from the fall and spring semester. The SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll is released in June of each year.
The Fall Academic Honor Roll is based on the 2010 spring, summer and fall terms. Any student-athlete who participates in an SEC championship sport or a student-athlete who participates in a sport listed on his/her institution's NCAA Sports Sponsorship Form is eligible for nomination to the Academic Honor Roll.
The criteria for the SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll is as follows: (1) A student-athlete must have a grade point average of 3.00 or above for either the preceding academic year (two semesters or three quarters) or have a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution. (2) If a student-athlete attends summer school, his/her grade point average during the summer academic term must be included in the calculation used to determine eligibility for the Academic Honor Roll. (3) Student-athletes eligible for the Honor Roll include those receiving an athletics scholarship, recipients of an athletics award (i.e., letter winner), and non-scholarship student-athletes who have been on a varsity team for two seasons. (4) Prior to being nominated, a student-athlete must have successfully completed 24 semester or 36 quarter hours of non-remedial academic credit toward a baccalaureate degree at the nominating institution. (5) The student-athlete must have been a member of a varsity team for the sport's entire NCAA Championship segment.
