On November 4, 2010, the Board of Trustees for the University of Alabama approved the submittal for an indoor tennis facility that will be located adjacent to the Alabama Tennis Stadium. The building will contain six regulation NCAA hard courts, in addition to a lobby and restroom.
"With the construction of the new six court indoor facility, we will have a training and competition environment that will be among the very best in the country," Alabama head men's tennis coach Billy Pate said. "It also serves as a great statement on behalf of the University of Alabama in terms of a commitment to excel at the highest level, while providing an ideal atmosphere for our fans to enjoy elite-level tennis."
The addition of the indoor tennis courts will not only provide a facility for the teams to compete during implement weather, but it also will benefit Alabama when submitting bids to host events such as the NCAA First and Second Rounds.
"We are thrilled about acquiring our new indoor tennis facility," Alabama head women's tennis coach Jenny Mainz said. "Mal Moore is committed to staying on the cutting edge in building state-of-the-art athletic facilities at The University of Alabama. This is a testament to the leading-edge thinking that will continue to promote and cultivate the championship mentality at Alabama. Coach Moore takes tremendous pride in setting the standard in the premier SEC and on a national level as well. This endeavor will assuredly help attract top notch student-athletes that desire playing on the big stage."
The project has an expected completion date of winter 2011.
